Donald Trump finally denounced domestic violence on Wednesday, nines days after news broke out about domestic abuse allegations of former staff secretary Rob Porter.
But Trump’s remarks were anything but heartfelt.
“I am totally opposed to domestic violence and everybody here knows that,” Trump said. “I’m totally opposed to domestic violence of any kind. Everyone knows that. And it almost wouldn’t even have to be said. So, now you hear it, but you all know.”
Trump claims that everyone should know he’s against domestic violence, but it took him nine days to say anything about it. He even praised Porter and suggested he was innocent. He also said that many in the White House were “very sad” about Porter’s departure without once mentioning the women who allege that Porter beat them.
Trump added to the controversy when he tweeted that these allegations deserved Due Process and that it is unfair that men were having their careers ruined by “mere” accusations made by women.
