Trump Fires Off Maniacal Rant Against Mueller’s Russia Probe In Furious Tweet

An unhinged President Trump unloaded on special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe in a Monday morning tweet, calling the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election a “total witch hunt” filled with “massive conflicts of interest.”

“A total WITCH HUNT with massive conflicts of interest!” a frustrated Trump vented on Twitter.

Trump’s Monday tweet follows a weekend in which he escalated his feud with law enforcement officials. In a searing string of tweets over the weekend, the erratic president singled out special counsel Robert Mueller for the first time, raising questions about whether he is preparing to fire him.

On Sunday, Trump’s personal lawyer, John Dowd, called on Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who is overseeing the special counsel because Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself, to end the investigation.

Later that day, Sen. Lindsey Graham warned on that such action would be “the beginning of the end” of Trump’s presidency.

“As I said before, if he tried to do that, that would be the beginning of the end of his presidency,” the South Carolina Republican said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Trump’s reference to “conflicts of interest” could be an effort to lay the groundwork for a second special counsel to investigate the FBI and Justice Department’s handling of the Russia investigation.

The Justice Department must have evidence of a crime and a conflict of interest to launch a second special counsel.

Late Friday night, Sessions fired former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe just days before he was set to retire with full pension benefits.

After his firing, McCabe launched a media blitz to get his side of the story out, saying the firing was part of the president’s effort to undermine the special counsel.

Like Comey, McCabe says he has kept memos of his interactions with the president.
