Donald Trump was desperate for an economic adviser and so he asked his son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner, to do research on China.
Vanity Fair reported on Saturday that Kushner made a search on Amazon, where he ran into a book co-written by Peter Navarro and was struck by its title, “Death by China.”
Kushner was so struck by the book that he invited Navarro to be an adviser to the Trump campaign, according to the report.
Navarro is now the director of the White House National Trade Council and serves as the Assistant to the President.
At first Navarro was brought in to be the economic adviser, but Trump felt as his approach on China was too soft.
After meeting with Chinese president Xi Jinping Trump made a change of mind about the country. Now the White House wants China to become a geopolitical partner in neutralizing the threat posed by the North Korean nuclear weapons program.
