Donald Trump made some accusations last week that former President Obama had wiretapped into phones at Trump Tower prior to the election, now the House intelligence committee is asking for evidence.
Trump tweeted last week:”How low has President Obama gone to tapp my phones during the very sacred election process. This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad(or sick) guy!”
His first tweet was followed by a series of other tweets but none of them offered evidence of the wiretapping happening.
A senior congressional aide, who requested anonymity due to not being authorized to discuss the request, said Saturday that the request that demands evidence by Monday was made in a letter sent by the committee chairman Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.).
Nunes said that he has yet to see any evidence to back up Trump’s claim and has suggested the news media were taking the president’s weekend tweets too literally.
“The president is a neophyte to politics — he’s been doing this a little over a year,” Nunes told reporters earlier this week.
