CNN’s Jake Tapper called out Donald Trump on Tuesday for using his State of the Union address to get financial support for his 2020 campaign. The CNN host called the move “sleazy and inappropriate.”
In the Trump campaign website, the campaign promises to print out a list of all the people that donate during the SOTU.
“We’re going to live broadcast a list of all supporters who donate before the president’s State of the Union address. And when President Trump finishes his speech we’ll hand him an official printed list,” the campaign website stated.
“He is fundraising off of the State of the Union. Is it smart campaigning?” Tapper asked former Congresswoman Mia Love (R-UT) during a panel discussion.
“I think he should focus on what has to happen. Stop trying to figure out what’s going to be to his advantage,” Love said.
She then explained that Trump should stay out of the border wall fight and do his job as president to either pass or veto the bill.
“Really right now the choice is we either stick with Pelosi or stick with the president. The president should be out of this. Speaker Pelosi, and all of these people should get together and say we’ll put a deal together and the president is responsible to either sign it or veto it.”
