Trump Is Using His Campaign Funds To Pay His Russia Probe Legal Team: Report

Donald Trump has reportedly been using funds that were donated to his reelection campaign and the Republican National Committee in order to pay his lawyers working in the Russia investigation.

Two people familiar with the matter said that Trump used money from his campaign funds to pay for his legal team.

While the U.S. Federal Election Commission does allow the use of private campaign funds to pay legal bills arising from being a candidate or elected official, Trump is the first president to use such funds to cover the costs of responding to a criminal probe, said election law experts.

A person familiar with the matter has said that the first payment has already been made and would be disclosed in public filings.

According to the report, the Republican National Committee is expected to make its August spending public on Wednesday, and the Trump campaign is due for another disclosure on Oct. 15.

Trump’s lead lawyer declined to comment on how Trump’s legal bills were being paid, but he did add, “That’s none of your business.”
