Trump Is Blaming Sessions Over The Alabama Election Loss: ‘He Gave Up Senate Seat!’

With his ego still shredded to pieces over the crushing Alabama special election defeat, President Donald Trump is blaming Jeff Sessions for the GOP’s loss of a red-state Senate seat.

Trump placed blame on Sessions for Republicans losing the seat because Sessions’s departure from the Senate seat to Trump’s Cabinet had caused the special election, according to the Associated Press.

AP reports that Trump is angry with Sessions again because the latter relinquished his position in the Senate to become Attorney General, and now, that old seat could end up swinging the fragile balance of Congress.

From AP:

“The rift between Trump and Sessions still has not healed. Recently, Trump bemoaned the Republicans’ loss in a special election in Alabama and in part blamed Sessions, whose departure from the Senate to head to Justice necessitated the election.”

But Trump himself nominated Sessions for the position, setting off the process.

The president first endorsed Sen. Luther Strange (R-Ala) in the race before Moore won the GOP primary. Trump also backed Moore, despite the candidate facing multiple allegations of sexual misconduct with teenage girls.

Moore was defeated by Democratic candidate Doug Jones earlier this month, and Trump has tried washing his hands of Moore while claiming he knew all along that the former judge was going to lose.

Sessions has said that Trump’s attacks on him were “hurtful” but that he will remain in his role.

Trump has also stepped up his attacks on the FBI in recent weeks, which falls under Sessions’s purview in the Department of Justice.
