Trump is slowly changing America to the way he wants it to be. A report from Reuters just stated that Trump is focusing counter-extremism program solely on Islam. He’s installing religious profiling and focusing solely on Muslims while removing white supremacists groups from the terror watch program.
He encouraged throughout his campaign that terrorism should be referred to as “radical Islam,” implementing a sense of Islamophobia.
The report states that:
“The program, “Countering Violent Extremism,” or CVE, would be changed to “Countering Islamic Extremism” or “Countering Radical Islamic Extremism,” the sources said, and would no longer target groups such as white supremacists who have also carried out bombings and shootings in the United States.”
It’s no surprise as Trump has picked a few known racists to be in his Cabinet, one being Steve Bannon. According to CNN “House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi Thursday called the appointment of Steve Bannon, the President’s chief strategist to the National Security Council “stunning,” and referred to him twice as ‘white supremacist.'”
“It’s a stunning thing, that a white supremacist would be a permanent member of the National Security Council,” Pelosi said at her weekly news conference.
Director of policy for the Muslim Public Affairs Council, Hoda Hawa, said she was told last week by people within DHS about the CVE effort from tackling all violent ideology to only Islamist extremism.
“That is concerning for us because they are targeting a faith group and casting it under a net of suspicion,” she said.
A reporter at ThinkProgress tweeted that eliminating the tracking of America’s will also eliminate the crucial tracking that the CVE program does to monitor the ranks of these hate-crime gangs and criminal enterprises.
