Trump Just Signed Women’s Lives Away In A Room Full Of Men

Donald Trump has just reinstated the global gag rule, a policy which prohibits giving U.S. funding to international nongovernmental organizations that offer or advise on a wide range of family planning and reproductive health options if they include abortion. The policy was first put in place by President Ronald Reagan in 1984.

By bringing this policy back, the U.S. will not provide any international assistance for family planning and reproductive health programs, which make it possible for 27 million women and couples to access contraceptive services and supplies.

The United States spends about $600 million a year on international assistance, but none of that money is used for abortions. That is because the Helms amendment, which started in 1973, prevents U.S. tax dollars to be used for funding overseas abortions.

This makes the global gag rule unnecessary, but Trump decided to bring it back which could cause millions of women and girls in developing countries and conflict zones to die. According to the World Health Organization more than 21 million women a year have unsafe abortions in developing countries, accounting for about 13 percent of all maternal deaths.

The most ironic yet disgusting part of this is that Trump signed the bill in a room full of white men. It just shows who’s behind him on these decisions to kill millions of women. This is inhuman and should not be tolerated.

Trump’s Cabinet is more white and more male than any president’s first Cabinet since President Reagan.
