Trump Just Tweeted His Reason For Sharing Classified Information With Russian Operatives

On Monday, a Washington Post story alleging president Donald Trump shared highly classified information with Russian officials during a meeting last week left the GOP in disarray and the White House in chaos, scrambling to explain the unprecedented development.

Well, today, the erratic president took to Twitter to respond to the bombshell revelation and, as expected, Twitter fired back.

“As President I wanted to share with Russia (at an openly scheduled W.H. meeting) which I have the absolute right to do, facts pertaining to terrorism and airline flight safety. Humanitarian reasons, plus I want Russia to greatly step up their fight against ISIS,” Trump wrote in a couple of tweets.

Despite the assertion that the President has the power to leak classified information, mentioning this right to share information would seem at odds with the general air of denial offered by White House officials.

This would seem to fit with the thought that the President did not act outside his authority in the broadest ‘no one did anything wrong’ sense, although at least some in the intelligence community expressed their concerns.

In fact, Israeli intelligence officials were reportedly warned by their American counterparts to not share any sensitive information with the Trump administration in advance of the President’s upcoming trip, Newsweek reports.

Twitter users wasted no time to make their voices heard:
