Trump Loses Again, Transgender Troops Can Now Re-Enlist In The Military
In the light of all the negativity that comes out of Donald Trump’s White House, a new report shares good news.
According to the Associated Press, the Pentagon issued a new guidance on Friday that will allow transgender troops who are currently serving in the military to re-enlist in the coming months.
This decision was announced by Defense Secretary James Mattis in a memo to military leaders. The memo said explained that for now, transgender troops will be able to re-enlist until the Pentagon can come up with a way on how to enact Trump’s ban on transgender military service, according to The Associated Press.
For now, transgender service members can continue to serve and receive medical care, Mattis said in the memo.
Trump’s decision to ban transgender people from serving in the military drew a lot of criticism, including Republican Senator John McCain, who said on Friday that he would support a legislation that would block Trump’s ban.
“Any member of the military who meets the medical and readiness standards should be allowed to serve – including those who are transgender,” McCain said.
