Trump May Have Just Shot Himself In The Foot With Tweet Attacking Kavanaugh Accuser

Donald Trump’s attack against Christine Ford, who accused Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her while they were in high school, may have just backfired.

Trump took to Twitter on Friday to claim that if Ford’s accusations were true, they would have been taken care of a long time ago.

Now, Senator Susan Collins (R-ME), who holds a pivotal position in Kavanaugh’s confirmation, has chosen to call out the president for an “appalling” tweet.

“I was appalled by the president’s tweet,” Collins said while speaking at an event in Portland, the Portland Press Herald reports.

“First of all, we know that allegations of sexual assault — I’m not saying that’s what happened in this case — but we know allegations of sexual assault are one of the most unreported crimes that exist,” the most senior Republican woman in the Senate told supporters Friday afternoon. “So I thought that the president’s tweet was completely inappropriate and wrong.”

According to The Press Herald, Collins “appeared to offer support for Ford, who has said Kavanaugh tried to sexually assault her 36 years ago when they were both in high school. The senator stopped short, though, of saying whether she believed Ford.”

It’s not a good move for Trump to push Collins as she holds a pivotal position in voting in Kavanaugh.
