Trump Updates Schedule To Spend Sunday Playing Golf: Report

President Trump, who has spent the weekend at his Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, NJ, was scheduled to address the relief efforts on Puerto Rico this afternoon, following Hurricane Maria in the U.S. territory. But he has ‘more pressing” things in his mind.

Instead of focusing on the relief effort on the island, Trump on Sunday updated his schedule to attend the Presidents Cup Golf Tournament at Liberty National Golf Club, The Hill reports.

Trump is scheduled to arrive at the course this afternoon and, according to the report, will participate in the trophy presentation at 6 p.m.

Trump faced a backlash this weekend for attacking Puerto Rican officials, including San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz, for their “poor leadership” during the crisis.

“The mayor of San Juan, who was very complimentary only a few days ago, has now been told by the Democrats that you must be nasty to Trump,” Trump tweeted. “Such poor leadership ability by the mayor of San Juan, and others in Puerto Rico, who are not able to get their workers to help.”

“They want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort,” he continued. “10,000 Federal workers now on Island doing a fantastic job.”

Democrats fired back at Trump, blasting him for his tweets attacking Cruz, with several noting Trump’s location at the time.

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) ripped Trump for “sitting in his opulent golf resort attacking hurricane first responders,” and Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.) slammed Trump for “tweeting insults at Puerto Rico’s leaders from your golf club.”
