It was reported on Monday that Trump administration attorneys are in favor of appointing a second special counsel to investigate the FBI and the Department of Justice.
According to deputy press secretary Raj Shah who spoke with Axios on Monday, the concept has already been approved by Trump’s lawyers.
The idea of the second special counsel was first brought up by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) following the release of the controversial House GOP memo.
“I like the FBI, I like the Department of Justice. But we need a special counsel to look at potential abuses of power,” Graham told a local NBC broadcast in Augusta, Georgia the day the memo was released. “Somebody needs to watch the watchers.”
According to Axios, House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA), who authored the recently released memo, is planning to release as many as five more memos with the same idea of attacking the FBI and DOJ.
