Last Time Donald Trump met with a world leader at his Mar-A-Lago resort, or as he calls it “The Southern White House,” he played a few rounds of gold with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
Trump, a man who has golfed almost every weekend since being president, even criticized former President Obama for playing golf with friends and not world leaders.
“I always said about President Obama, it’s great to play golf, but play golf with heads of countries,” Trump said after golfing with Abe in February. “Don’t play with your friends that you play with every week. That doesn’t help.”
But, it seems that Trump will not be taking part in any golfing this weekend. Chinese President Xi Jinping actually isn’t very fond of the game of golf. In fact, Xi sees it as a symbol of corruption, cronyism and the excesses of capitalism.
The Chinese president has already ordered to shut down hundreds of golf courses in China.
According to a senior national security official, Trump will not follow his own words about golfing with world leaders. The official said the two presidents might walk around, but there will not be anything formal or anything involving golf clubs.
