Trump is still following a trend that he himself started, of picking people for his cabinet that are absolutely unqualified to be there. Most of them have no governing experience whatsoever.
Trump’s pick for cybersecurity adviser just got hacked, his pick for the department of justice is a man who has been accused of being a racist multiple times, the man who is in charge of foreign affairs has close ties to Russia, the woman he chose to be Education Secretary has no experience, and now he has picked a woman who doesn’t believe in science as his new health policy adviser.
Trump is giving favors to the religious right who nobly sold out their ‘values’ to vote for him in the 2016 election. He has named Katy Talento as his new health policy adviser, a woman who has deviated numerous times from scientific fact to push a religious agenda.
During the George H.W. Bush Administration, Talento was part of a group of conservative lobbyist who wanted the government to
stop funding HIV/AIDS research. In 1992, three years into his term, HIV/AIDS became the number one cause of death for men aged 25-44.
Talento has even released guidelines on what to do to stop the transmission of the Zika virus. She instructed women to “sleep with your husband, with you snug under the covers and him on top of the covers, offering himself as human sacrifice to the mosquitos, who will pick the easier target.”
Zika expert Dr. Nikos Vasilakis of the University of Texas says that this has no basis in fact. He told the press, “I don’t know where she’s getting her data from.”
This is very concerning, as she could make decisions based on her believes instead of facts. Trump is setting up his Administration to prefer ideology over science and appearances over results. In doing so, he is sacrificing the protection of an entire generation of Americans.
