Trump’s Win Ignited A Fire In Women In Politics, 11,000 Want To Run For Office Next Year
Donald Trump’s presidential win ignited a fire in women all over the country. According to EMILY’s list, more than 11,000 women have reached out to the group to say they want to run for office next year.
The outreach this year is unbelievable compared to 2016, when only 900 spoke to the group.
The group backs female pro-abortion rights candidates.
President of Emily’s List, Stephanie Schriock, said that the group of women that reached out to them are interested in running for local school boards, state legislatures and Congress. There was even few dozen that are seriously considering House races.
The results of the 2016 election had a big impact on these numbers, as multiple lawmakers urged people to run for office themselves.
Following Trump’s inauguration more than 1,200 millennials were recruited by a new organization to run for office.
