An increasingly desperate President Trump fired off a tweet Monday morning attacking former President Barack Obama, claiming that his administration’s decision to investigate the Russia interference in the 2016 presidential election was motivated by wanting Hillary Clinton to win.
Here are the facts:
The FBI opened an investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow in July 2016, after the DNC announced it was hacked by Russians.
About a month later, President Obama was informed that Vladimir Putin was directly involved in election meddling. But former administration officials say there were limitations to what they could do because Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) blocked any effort to stop the Russian hack, warning Obama that, if the White House made public the investigation, he would publicly call that effort partisan.
So nothing was done.
Here’s Trump’s Monday morning Twitter tantrum:
Why did the Obama Administration start an investigation into the Trump Campaign (with zero proof of wrongdoing) long before the Election in November? Wanted to discredit so Crooked H would win. Unprecedented. Bigger than Watergate! Plus, Obama did NOTHING about Russian meddling.
