Unemployment Claims Surpass 6.6 Million Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

The U.S. economy continues to suffer amid the coronavirus pandemic, with unemployment claims soaring to a record-shattering high for a second week in a row.

Unemployment claims topped 6.6 million in the week that ended March 28 as businesses shut down during the coronavirus pandemic, the Labor Department reported Thursday.

The number of layoffs amid the global health crisis is expected to grow in the next several weeks, economists said.
