A police officer at a Washington-area middle school is now under investigation after he accidentally fired a gun inside his office on Tuesday morning
According to police in Alexandria, Va. the unnamed school resource officer fired a shot inside his office at George Washington Middle School around 9 a.m. The officer claimed it was an accident and no one was injured in the incident.
The officer has been put on temporary leave and is now under investigation, the Alexandria Police Department announced.
According to a report, the officer immediately contacted the school administration to report the incident.
Alexandria City Public Schools passed a resolution against gun violence last week calling for action by Congress and the Virginia General Assembly, arguing that “the prevention of gun violence cannot be relegated to local school divisions alone.”
