Appearing on “The View” on Friday, conservative Rabbi Shmuley Boteach stood up for former comedian Roseanne Barr, claiming that she deserved forgiveness. But co-host Meghan McCain thought otherwise and she made sure Boteach knew.
The segment began when co-host Sunny Hostin noted that Barr has been very inconsistent with showing her remorse for her racist attack against former Obama administration official Valerie Jarrett.
“Last week, she released a video where she’s screaming… that she didn’t know Valerie was black,” Hostin said. “And, in fact, she said, ‘I thought the b*tch was white!’”
“All valid points,” Boteach responded, before claiming that Barr deserved forgiveness regardless. “Martin Luther King said two things about forgiveness: He said… forgiveness is not an occasional act, it’s a constant attitude, and… when we’ve lost the capacity to forgive, we’ve lost the capacity to love.”
That’s when McCain came in and said that Barr made Republicans look like crazed bigots and she doesn’t deserve forgiveness.
“Roseanne is every gross stereotype I’m trying to get people to get away from,” she said.
