A large group of demonstrators were arrested on Wednesday after they held a sit-in outside of Republican Senator Mitch McConnell’s office demanding that he reopen the government.
Multiple videos of the protest were posted on social media, quickly going viral. In the videos, the demonstrators can be heard chanting “stop the shutdown” and “we need a paycheck” outside McConnell’s office in the Russell Senate Office Building.
The protesters were later shown being zip-tied and detained by Capitol Police officers. Chants of “we want to work” and “where is Mitch?” could be heard as individuals were escorted out of the building.
