Watch: Nadler Fires Off Brutal Rebuke Of Trump’s WH For Treating The President Like A King
Donald Trump’s White House is doing everything in their power to stop House Democrats from investigating the president of the United States. On Wednesday, House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler fired off a brutal rebuke of Trump’s White House for refusing to turn over important documents and comply with the investigation.
In a letter, White House Counsel Pat Cipollone declined a request from Nadler to turn over documents regarding the probe claiming that Nadler was seeking to harass the president.
“It appears that the Committee’s inquiry is designed, not to further a legitimate legislative purpose, but rather to conduct a pseudo law enforcement investigation on matters that were already the subject of the Special Counsel’s long-running investigation and are outside the constitutional authority of the legislative branch,” Cipollone wrote in the letter.
Nadler appeared on CNN on Wednesday to speak about the letter. He scrutinized the White House for treating Trump like a king. He called the White House refusal to abide by the request “preposterous.”
.@RepJerryNadler responds, calling the White House claim “outrageous” and pledging that the House Judiciary committee will hear from both McGahn and Mueller at some point. He is not ruling out inherent contempt (such as fines) for Barr in addition to civil contempt. https://t.co/rf5hzvSfxx

“This is the White House claiming that the president is a king. This is the White House saying that the Justice Department said they can’t hold the president accountable because you can’t indict a president and now they’re saying neither can Congress. So the president is totally unaccountable and above the law. No president, no person in the United States is above the law. This is preposterous,” he said.
In addition, he noted that they would not rule out extreme measures to retrieve the documents.
“Nadler and other House Democratic leaders are now raising the prospect they will hold numerous administration officials in contempt at the same time as part of a package to highlight the Trump administration’s stonewalling of Congress. Some Democrats are also talking about invoking Congress’ so-called inherent contempt powers to fine or jail those who defy congressional subpoenas,” a report from CNN said.
