WATCH: Republicans Try To Shut Down Dem Lawmaker As He Shares Audio Of Captive Migrant Children Crying
Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) took the House floor on Friday and shared an audio clip of migrant children who were weeping after being separated from their families. It appeared that Republicans couldn’t handle the truth and tried to shut hit down.
“If the Statue of Liberty could cry, she would be crying today,” Lieu said as he pointed to a picture of immigrant children who had been taken away from their parents. “As I stand here there are 2,300 kids that have been ripped away from their parents by our government.”
Lieu then confronted his colleagues by asking them to imagine how they would feel if it were their children taken away from them without even telling them where they were being held. After questioning his colleagues, Lieu started to play a leaked audio clip obtained by Pro Publica earlier this week of a migrant child crying at a detention facility.
That’s when Republican Congresswoman Karen Handel tried to shut Lieu down by claiming that the rules prohibit “the use of an electronic device to make sounds in the chamber.”
Lieu, however, kept playing the recording, despite her objections, until its completion.
