Watch: Rural Voters Asked Chuck Grassley If Trump Is ‘Fit To Serve’ And Things Got Weird
On Friday, rural voters in Iowa sent a powerful message to Republicans: no one is buying your BS anymore. That’s a fact Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) learned the hard way during a town hall meeting in the rural city of Logan.
Right from the start, Grassley was peppered with questions about President Trump’s fitness to serve as commander in chief.
“Are you not personally concerned about his fitness to serve? If not, why not? Because I’m very concerned,” 67-year-old Mary Mikels asked Grassley, The Des Moines Register reported.
The senior senator tried to deflect and say that he isn’t qualified to diagnose anyone.
“He gets on Twitter and says the last thing that Fox News told him to say,” Mikels continued. “That’s not presidential. It’s concerning. Are you personally concerned?”
Grassley said that he has his own job to worry about.
“I have a job to do,” Grassley told her. “I’m not president of the United States. I’m a check on the president of the United States. That’s my constitutional responsibility. I’m going to do what I can under our Constitution to make sure that nothing bad happens to our country.”
