“We don’t want a sh*thole president,” the internet declared Thursday in response to Donald Trump’s “racist” comments about people from other countries.
Trump was quoted during an Oval Office rant about people coming into the United States from “sh*thole countries” during a meeting Thursday. The reference was to those from Haiti and African countries.
“Why are we having all these people from sh*thole countries come here?” Trump said, The Washington Post reports. Trump was referring to people from African countries and Haiti. Instead, Trump wants to see more people from places like Norway.
The comments come just after the Norwegian Prime Minister came to the White House. Lawmakers who were present at the meeting were stunned and taken aback, according to The Post.
Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Dick Durbin (D-IL) were speaking with the president about cutting the visa lottery program by 50 percent with specific countries prioritized over the other.
The news comes just weeks after a New York Times report revealed Trump said in a June meeting that people coming from Haiti “all have AIDS.” He continued saying that recent Nigerian immigrants would never “go back to their huts” in Africa and that Afghanistan is a terrorist haven.
The White House had no comment, but the internet was quick to light up with anger and disgust at the president calling him everything from “unfit” to “racist.”

Someone that “harbors racist feelings about people of color” = a racist
Therefore, Donald Trump is a racist https://t.co/iNWKx2ua5u

Another first for Trump: As far as I can tell, using the WaPo's 1877-2017 archive search function, today's report quoting the President is the first time that paper has published the word "shithole". pic.twitter.com/jdvse7f93r

You can keep telling me that this man and support of him isn't rooted in racial hostility. I'll just keep reading what he says and watching you still support him. https://t.co/B0g0TuCPB1

people think white nationalism is some loaded, hyperbolic term, but the “shithole” thing is literal, textbook white nationalism

Maybe it's just me, but I never thought of America as a "shithole" country until that asshole and his Russian bosses stole the election.

Decrying immigrants from Haiti and Africa and other places as "shithole countries," Trump said he would prefer more immigrants from places like Norway. https://t.co/KvsslFrzZ5
